Bhubaneswar: Jharsuguda was the hottest place in Odisha recording 42.2°C at 11.30 am on Thursday, while Hirakud and Sambalpur were close second and third at 41.4°C and 41.2°C respectively.
As most locations in Odisha experienced heat wave conditions since early morning today at least four places recorded day temperatures of 40°C and above today, while the temperatures at eight places recorded 35°C and above at 11.30 am.
According to the regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) here, the influence of Nor’westers will decrease in the state in the coming days. The heat wave is expected to continue for at least two more days. The regional weather office has predicted that the day temperature (maximum temperature) will decrease by 2°C to 3°C during the next two days.
The IMD has issued a heat wave alert for several Odisha districts and advised people against stepping outside their homes from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. In addition, they have been asked to take necessary precautions when going outdoors.
An orange warning for a heat wave to severe heat wave conditions has been issued for Jharsuguda, Sundergarh, Keonjhar, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Bolangir, Sonepur, Nuapada, Kandhamal, Cuttack, Khordha, and Boudh districts today. Similarly, a yellow-orange for heat wave has been issued for the districts of Kalahandi, Ganjam, Gajapati, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajapur, Bhadrak, Balasore, and Mayurbhanj.
