Bhubaneswar: Jharsuguda town in Odisha recorded the highest temperature in the state on Sunday, with the mercury soaring to 43.5°C. A total of 11 towns in Odisha recorded temperatures of 40°C or above. Bhubaneswar registered a maximum temperature of 37.5°C, while Cuttack recorded 37°C.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Balangir experienced a scorching 42.4°C, followed closely by Titilagarh at 42°C, Sambalpur at 41.9°C, Sundergarh at 41.8°C, Boudh at 41.5°C, Hirakud and Sonepur at 41.3°C each, Nuapada at 41°C, Bhawanipatna at 40.8°C, Rourkela at 40.1°C, Paralakhemundi at 39.8°C, and Angul at 39.7°C.
The IMD has also predicted that maximum temperatures are likely to rise by 4 to 6 degrees Celsius in eastern Indian states over the next four days.
