Bhubaneswar: Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare and Chemicals & Fertilizers, Jagat Prakash Nadda, inaugurated a state-of-the-art Central Research Laboratory at AIIMS Bhubaneswar on Saturday, marking a major step forward in the institute’s evolution as a hub of medical innovation and excellence.
The newly launched research facility is designed to enable cutting-edge medical research and foster scientific breakthroughs. It will serve as a powerful resource for doctors, researchers, and scholars working to deliver impactful healthcare solutions and strengthen India’s research capabilities—particularly in the eastern region.
Nadda also laid the foundation stone for a Multiutility (Gastronomy) Block, a modern infrastructure project aimed at streamlining essential services for students, faculty, staff, and visitors on campus. The block will centralize amenities to enhance convenience and operational efficiency.
Continuing AIIMS Bhubaneswar’s push toward digital transformation, the Union Minister unveiled the institute’s revamped website, now equipped with a user-friendly interface and integrated services for patients and the public. The website reflects Odisha’s rich cultural heritage while improving healthcare accessibility.
Further expanding health service offerings, Nadda inaugurated a new EHS Clinic and AMRIT Pharmacy, aimed at providing affordable and essential medicines to the general public.
A skin bank is also in the pipeline and will be set up at AIIMS Bhubaneswar soon, the Minister announced.
During the visit, Nadda toured key medical and wellness facilities including the Burn Centre—the only one of its kind in Eastern India—along with the Swachhata Exhibition, Integrated Health & Wellness Clinic, Rheumatology & Geriatric Clinic, and the NICU. He also planted a sapling at Smruti Upavan, symbolizing a shared vision for a greener and healthier future.
The visit concluded with a high-level review meeting where the Minister assessed progress on various developmental projects and interacted with students, sanitary staff, and employees, reinforcing the government’s commitment to inclusive healthcare delivery.
Accompanying the Minister were AIIMS Bhubaneswar’s leadership team, including President Prof. (Dr) Shailesh Kumar, Executive Director Prof. (Dr) Ashutosh Biswas, and other deans and senior officials.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Biswas remarked, “The Central Research Laboratory will be a catalyst for scientific discovery and translational research in the Eastern region. With the continuous support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister JP Nadda, we are motivated to set higher benchmarks in healthcare innovation and delivery.”
