Bhubaneswar: Gagan Bihari Sahoo, Junior Assistant at Baisian Anchalika Government High School in Baisian of Odisha’s Dhenkanal district was dismissed from government service as per provision of the OCS (CCA) Rules, 1962, with effect from April 20, 2024, by the competent authority following his conviction by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Dhenkanal, in a bribery case.
According to a press release issued by Odisha Vigilance on Sunday, Sahoo who was charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance in Cuttack Vigilance police station Case No. 18 dated12.05.2009 Under Section 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d)/7 PC Act, 1988, for demanding and accepting a bribe from a complainant (retired government employee) for regularisation of his provisional pension, was convicted by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Dhenkanal, on May 10, 2023 and sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for two years and to pay a fine of Rs 20,000 for the offence under Section 7 PC Act, 1988.
The Special Judge, Vigilance, had also sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for two years and to pay a fine of Rs 20,000 and in default of payment of the fine, to undergo rigorous imprisonment for six months for the offence under Section 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) of PC Act, 1988.
Following the conviction of Gagan Bihari Sahoo, Odisha Vigilance communicated in this regard to the competent authority to take appropriate action against Sahoo. Accordingly, on April 20 this year, he was dismissed from government service over bribery.
