Kataka: Police have launched an investigation into an alleged kangaroo court incident in Kataka city after a video showing a minor being stripped naked and assaulted by a group of youths surfaced on social media.
The incident reportedly took place two days ago in the Chauliaganj area and is suspected to have been triggered by previous enmity. The video, allegedly recorded by the assailants themselves, recently went viral, prompting the victim’s family to approach the police.
According to the complaint, the minor had been away from home since the incident and returned only on Friday. His family came to know about the assault after watching the viral video. When questioned, the boy narrated the sequence of events, following which a written complaint was lodged at the local police station.
The victim’s mother alleged that her son frequently visited friends in Matha Sahi and had recently come under suspicion in connection with a theft case in Thathari Sahi. She claimed that when he visited Thathari Sahi two days ago, he was intercepted by more than five youths, who allegedly assaulted him, threatened him with a knife, stripped him naked and abandoned him on the road.
She further alleged that a nephew of a local corporator was among those involved in the assault and also played a role in circulating the video on social media.
ACP Sudhanshu Jena has termed the incident a serious case resembling a kangaroo court and assured that stringent action would be taken against all culprits. Anyone found guilty will not be spared, Jena stated.
