Cuttack: A junior engineer of Narsinghpur block was found dead on Saturday, with his body hanging from a ceiling fan in his quarters. The police recovered the body and initiated an investigation.
The deceased has been identified as Ajay Samal, a resident of Sanabarasingha village under Baramba block.
According to his neighbour Binay Behera, Samal was under mental stress due to a complaint filed against him with the District Collector regarding alleged MGNREGA irregularity in Sagar panchayat.
The deceased engineer had been working at the Narsinghpur block for the past three years and was looking after MGNREGA work at the Sagar, Alara, and Kanjipada panchayats under Narasinghapur block.
After his death news spread, local police, block administration, tehsildar and Baramba MLA Bijaya Kumar Dalabehera reached the scene. The MLA, has, meanwhile, directed police to conduct a thorough investigation.
The exact cause of Samal’s death is yet to be ascertained, but it is suspected to be a case of suicide. A scientific team is expected to arrive at the scene to investigate further.
