Bhubaneswar: Supreme Court judge Justice Bela M. Trivedi has been appointed as the chairperson of the Mahanadi Water Disputes Tribunal.
The post of the chairperson was lying vacant for over seven months.
The tribunal was constituted in 2018 following a Supreme Court directive to resolve the water-sharing dispute between Chhattisgarh and Odisha.
The Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation constituted the tribunal having its headquarters in Delhi.
The Odisha government had moved the Supreme Court, seeking to refer the water dispute regarding the inter-state river Mahanadi and its river valley to a Tribunal for adjudication under the Inter-State River Water Disputes Act, 1956.
