Baripada: Inspector-In-Charge (IIC) of Kaptipada police station was attacked by sand mafias during a raid at Dahisahi under his police jurisdiction in Mayurbhanj district, on Wednesday.
The IIC Prakash Rath, was severely injured in the attack and hospitalized.
According to reports, Rath had gone to raid an illegal sand storage facility in the Dahisahi area when he was ambushed by the mafias. The attackers, including women, pelted stones at Rath and damaged his vehicle. On a tip-off, police reached the spot and rescued the IIC.
Police registered a case against the mafias and are investigating the incident. Rath is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital and his condition is reported to be critical.
