Kataka Civic Body Sets Up Three ‘RUPAYAN’ Centres To Promote Reuse

Kataka: In an initiative aimed at promoting sustainable living and strengthening citizen participation in civic affairs, the Kataka Municipal Corporation (KMC) has set up three ‘RUPAYAN’ centres across the city to facilitate the reuse of household items.

The initiative, spearheaded by KMC Commissioner Kirandeep Kaur Sahota, seeks to bring together the principles of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle (RRR) with the spirit of sharing and compassion. Under the programme, citizens can donate usable clothes, household articles and other items that are no longer required by them but may be useful to others.

A dedicated RUPAYAN Centre has been established at the Mission Shakti Complex within the Barabati Stadium premises. Donated articles are collected and made available to people who require them, thereby giving usable items a second life instead of allowing them to end up as waste.

The three RUPAYAN centres are being managed by the Kataka Development Authority (KDA), while manpower support has been provided by the State Bank of India (SBI) Foundation. The district administration has allotted space for the centres.

Apart from the centre at the Mission Shakti Complex, two other RUPAYAN centres are functioning at College Square and Nuapada, making the initiative accessible to residents in different parts of the city.

The programme is based on the simple idea that items considered surplus in one household could meet the needs of another. Besides reducing the disposal of usable materials, the initiative aims to promote conscious consumption and encourage citizens to adopt more sustainable practices.

Commissioner Kirandeep Kaur Sahota has stressed the importance of public participation in making civic initiatives successful. RUPAYAN seeks to provide citizens with an opportunity to contribute to both environmental conservation and community welfare.

The initiative also reflects Kataka’s tradition of community spirit, brotherhood and mutual support. By encouraging people to donate rather than discard usable articles, KMC hopes to make reuse and sharing a part of everyday civic responsibility.

KMC has appealed to citizens not to throw away usable clothes, household articles and other items lying unused in their homes. Instead, residents have been urged to donate such articles at any of the RUPAYAN centres so that they can be reused by people who need them.

With RUPAYAN, KMC aims to create a model of citizen participation where environmental responsibility and social compassion go hand in hand, making the city not only cleaner but also more caring.
