Bhubaneswar: A fast-track court in Kendrapada on Thursday sentenced a 21-year-old man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a 17-year-old girl in 2025.
Special Judge Tribikram Keshari Chinara convicted the accused under Section 6 of the POCSO Act and relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The court also directed the Odisha State Legal Services Authority to pay ₹4 lakh as compensation to the survivor.
According to the prosecution, the survivor’s mother filed an FIR stating that the accused sexually assaulted her daughter on July 27, 2025, when she was alone at home.Following the complaint, police arrested the accused and submitted a chargesheet after completing the investigation.
During the trial, the prosecution examined 15 witnesses, including the survivor, and presented medical evidence. Based on the testimony and evidence, the court held the accused guilty and pronounced the sentence, said Special Public Prosecutor Samar Keshari Mohapatra.
The case was heard on a fast-track basis to ensure speedy justice for the victim.
