Kendrapara: A Muslim woman of Baburampatna village under Derabish block of Kendrapara district was allegedly given triple talaq by her husband over the phone from Gujarat after she was defrauded of Rs 1.50 lakh by a cyber fraudster.
The woman, a mother of four children has lodged a complaint at the Kendrapara Sadar police station against her husband Seikh Razid in this connection and has demanded maintenance from him.
The woman in her complaint has alleged that a few days back an unknown individual had called her over the phone while identifying himself as Ravi Sharma and had later befriended her on the social media platform Facebook while addressing her as his sister told her that he had sent a costly gift worth Rs 25 lakh to her through courier and asked her to send Rs 1.5 0 lakh towards courier charges.
Believing Sharma, the woman walked into the trap and remitted the amount to Sharma from her bank account through a UPI service.
However, she later came to know that she has been duped by her new friend.
When her husband Seikh Razid who works in Gujarat came to know that his wife has lost his hard-earned money, he called her over the phone and in a fit of rage uttered ‘talaq’ thrice.
“He is asking for the money I have lost to cyber theft. But it is not his money I had borrowed it. He has given talaq (divorce) to me on 1st ,” the woman said.
