Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has assured the families of two Odia doctors, who went missing in the devastating landslides at Wayanad in Kerala, of all possible assistance.
On Wednesday, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari expressed hope that the two missing doctors and their wives will soon be reunited with their families in Odisha.
Talking to the media, Pujari said, “We are in constant touch with the Kerala government, and our Special Relief Commissioner is in contact with his counterpart in Kerala. While two doctors are yet to be traced, we are in contact with Odia officials to get regular updates. The concerned district administration met the families of the missing doctors and updated them about the status. A team has also been sent to Kerala to keep us updated about the situation.”
He continued: “A lady doctor and a nurse from Odisha who were injured in the landslide are under medical treatment in Kerala. We wish them a speedy recovery. We are hopeful that the missing doctors will be rescued soon and will return to Odisha safely.”
It is pertinent to note that Dr Bishnu Prasad Chinra, a resident of Choudwar, his wife Priyadharini Pal and friend Dr Swadhin Panda and wife Swikruti Mohapatra left Bengaluru for an outing on July 26. From there, they went to Kerala’s Wayanad. They were staying in Linara Villa. Unfortunately, landslides occurred in Meppadi, Mundakkai Town and Chooral Mala hill areas on Monday night. After the landslide, mud water flooded various populated areas in the locality.
