Soro: Khaira police in Odisha’s Balasore district seized diamond and gold ornaments worth over Rs 80 lakh on Tuesday and arrested one person in connection with stealing these valuables.
The arrested accused has been identified as Banamali, a resident of Sarkona village in Balasore district.
According to the police, Banamali had stolen a diamond ring, gold and diamond bracelets, two gold chains, a gold ring, a gold locket, 5 gold earrings and a gold ear stud in Bangalore. A few days ago, he had gone to Rudrakanta Jewellers in the Khaira market to sell the stolen ornaments.
The shop owner, Mamta Sahu, however, became suspicious after seeing such expensive ornaments with Banamali. When she asked Banamali about his identity and where he had got the ornaments, he fled the place. Following this, the shopkeeper filed a complaint with the Khaira police and police station officer Moushumi Mohanty started investigating the incident.
Based on the footage obtained from a CCTV camera installed in the jewellery shop, Banamali was arrested from his house late Monday night. During interrogation, he confessed to stealing the ornaments in Bengaluru.
The police revealed that he had stolen the ornaments from the house of a woman named Padma Reddy while working in Bengaluru.
