Puri: A joint team of the Puri Municipal Corporation, police and Food Safety officials on Wednesday conducted raids at several khaja shops and manufacturing units in the vicinity of the Shree Jagannath Temple following complaints over adulteration and unhygienic practices.
The enforcement drive covered areas around the temple, Uttar Parswa Math and Srisetu, where officials inspected khaja preparation and storage facilities.
During the raids, the team seized khaja and sugar syrup suspected to have been adulterated or prepared under unhygienic conditions. The seized items were handed over to the municipal corporation for further action as per law.
Officials said around three quintals of khaja and sugar syrup have been seized so far. The raids were conducted at nearly four khaja-making units, while fines amounting to Rs 35,000 were collected from violators.
The authorities indicated that such enforcement measures would continue to ensure food safety and hygiene in shops and manufacturing units catering to pilgrims and visitors in the temple city.
