Koraput: Two women sustained serious burn injuries after accidentally coming into contact with a live 33kV power line at Borigumma in Koraput district on Monday.
The incident occurred while the women—Tulasi Harjan from Daleiguda village and Chandra Bhumia—were engaged in construction-related work at a house near the Borigumma High School playground.
According to reports, the high-tension wire passed near the property, and both women came into contact with it during the course of their work.
Tulasi Harjan suffered burns on nearly 70% of her body and remains in critical condition, while Chandra Bhumia also sustained burn injuries. Following the incident, officials from the electricity department promptly cut off the power supply, enabling their rescue. Both victims were admitted to a nearby medical facility for treatment.
Relatives of Tulasi Harjan have alleged that the accident was caused due to the negligence of the mason overseeing the construction, claiming he failed to ensure safety around the live power connection.
