Bhubaneswar: The Central Government has decided to increase the number of MBBS seats in Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital in Koraput by 25. As a result, the annual MBBS enrollment in the college will increase from 125 to 150.
This new seat system will be implemented from the academic year 2027-28. In this regard, the Central Government has directed the NMC to take necessary steps in a government order issued on 29 October 2026. However, this increase in seats will depend on compliance with all the prevailing rules and regulatory conditions.
The Central Government has taken this decision after considering the applications, documents and other information submitted by the medical colleges.
This will create new opportunities for medical education, said the Health Minister Dr. Mukesh Mahaling. He said that “Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the leadership of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, the scope of medical education in Odisha will be expanded and it will help in producing more doctors in the future and more talented students will get the opportunity to study.”
