Bhubaneswar: The Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment has launched a lecture series titled “Krushi Gyan Lecture Series: Viksit Odisha for Viksit Bharat.” The first lecture of the series was held on January 6, 2026, at the Krushi Bhavan Auditorium in Bhubaneswar, with an inaugural lecture focusing on the future roadmap for agricultural development in India, with special emphasis on Odisha. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Mangi Lal Jat, Secretary of the Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE) and Director General of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR).
Dr. Jat presented a highly erudite lecture titled “Vision Plan for Viksit Bharat 2047 in the Field of Agricultural Research, Education, and Extension with a Focus on Odisha.” He noted that Odisha serves as a living laboratory for science-led agricultural transformation and is ahead of many other states in terms of agricultural skill development. Dr. Jat also praised the state’s agricultural transformation and its forward-looking vision.
The lecture highlighted strategic priorities, innovations, and policy directions in agricultural research, education, and extension systems that are critical for achieving the national vision of ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’, while addressing Odisha’s unique agro-climatic and socio-economic context.
The “Krushi Gyan Lecture Series: Viksit Odisha for Viksit Bharat” aims to provide a platform for meaningful dialogue among farmers, policymakers, researchers, academicians, students, and development stakeholders to discuss Odisha’s role in India’s agricultural development journey.
Dr. Arabinda Kumar Padhee, Additional Chief Secretary of the Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment, provided a brief introduction of the guest and thanked the DG of ICAR for gracing the event. This was followed by a question-and-answer session. Additional Secretary Shubhranshu Mishra delivered the welcome address, and Joint Director of Agriculture Dr. Sangram Keshari Pattnaik presented the vote of thanks.
The event was attended by senior government officials, scientists, academicians, and representatives from OUAT and various ICAR institutions.
