Jajpur: A large breach in the Baitarani River embankment near Kuanra Sahi in Ward No. 4 of Duduranta panchayat under Dasarathpur block in Jajpur district was repaired and secured on Tuesday, bringing relief to residents living in the area.
The breach was the fourth reported at the location and was also the largest among the breaches, raising concerns over the safety of the vulnerable stretch of the embankment.
Following the breach, the Water Resources Department launched repair and protective measures on a priority basis to prevent further damage and safeguard the adjoining areas. The breached portion has now been restored and secured, officials said.
Further strengthening work is being carried out along the affected stretch to improve the stability and durability of the embankment. The measures are aimed at providing additional protection to the riverbank and reducing the possibility of further erosion or damage.
Departmental engineers and field-level officials are keeping a close watch on the site and maintaining continuous surveillance of the embankment. They are also supervising the ongoing strengthening work to ensure that the required safety measures are implemented effectively.
The repair of the major breach has provided immediate relief to residents, while continued monitoring and strengthening of the embankment are expected to help minimise the risk of further breaches in the area.
