Bhubaneswar: The Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar has issued a Port Warning LC-3 for all ports of Odisha on Thursday due to the intensification of the low pressure system over the Northwest Bay of Bengal.
According to the IMD bulletin, the well-marked low pressure area over Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining North Odisha – West Bengal coasts is bringing local bad weather conditions along the coast.
The LC-3 signal means ‘Port Threatened by local bad weather like squally winds’. Under this warning, all four major ports of the state — Gopalpur, Puri, Paradeep, and Dhamara — have been advised to remain alert.
The IMD has advised fishermen and small vessels to avoid venturing into the sea during this period. Shipping and port authorities have been asked to take precautionary measures in view of squally winds and rough sea conditions.
The system, with an associated cyclonic circulation extending up to 7.6 km above mean sea level, is very likely to move northwestwards across North Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal during the next two days.
This is expected to further intensify rainfall and wind activity along the Odisha coast.
Meanwhile, fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea along & off Odisha Coast from July 16 to July 18.
