Bhubaneswar: A leopard was found trapped in a hunter’s snare in Kathagochhi forest under Nilagiri forest range in Balasore district and died on Tuesday.

As per reports, the leopard had reportedly strayed out of the nearby Kuldiha Wildlife Sanctuary on Monday late night and entered the Kathagochhi forest area. On Tuesday morning, locals heard the animal’s growls and rushed to the spot, where they discovered it caught in a wire snare. Despite efforts, the leopard succumbed to its injuries a short while later.

Forest department officials and staff have reached the spot and taken stock of the situation. The Forest Department has launched an investigation to identify and arrest the persons responsible for laying the illegal snare in the forest.
