Boudh: The decomposed body of a leopard was recovered from a nullah in Podhahal reserve forest under Madhapur Range in Boudh forest division on Wednesday.
According to forest officials, the leopard’s carcass was found in a nullah inside the forest. Initial investigation suggests that it died 5-7 days ago. A scientific team, along with Regional Chief Conservator of Forests of Berhampur Circle Sanjay Kumar Swain and Boudh Forest Division officials, visited the spot for investigation.
“The animal’s post-mortem has been conducted, and samples have been collected for further examination. The exact cause of death will be known only after laboratory tests”, said a forest official.
According to Range Officer Asik Digal, “Ninety per cent of the tiger’s body has decomposed, making it challenging to determine the cause of death. However, since all body parts, including valuable organs, are intact, poaching has been ruled out as the primary suspect.”
Digal added, “The post-mortem report will reveal the exact reason behind the tiger’s demise.”
