Bhubaneswar: In a notable act of alertness, lifeguards at Puri Beach on Friday thwarted a robbery attempt and recovered Rs 5,500 allegedly stolen from tourists by two persons posing as beggars.
According to reports, three tourists were approached by a woman who offered to fetch liquor for Rs 500. After consuming the alcohol, the tourists reportedly lost consciousness on the beach. Seizing the opportunity, the woman and her male accomplice allegedly stole Rs 5,500 from the tourists’ belongings.
However, lifeguards stationed nearby noticed the duo’s suspicious movements and promptly intervened. Both suspects were apprehended on the spot and the stolen cash was recovered.
The prompt action of the lifeguards has drawn widespread appreciation from both locals and visitors, who praised them not only for ensuring safety in the waters but also for protecting tourists from criminal elements.
