Bhubaneswar: A woman allegedly attempted self-immolation over a family dispute at Manpur village under Kantabania police station limits in Dhenkanal district on Saturday.
The victim has been identified as Sabitri Gochhayat. She was initially rushed to the Angul District Headquarters Hospital (DHH). As her condition deteriorated, she was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
According to reports, Sabitri poured petrol on herself and set herself ablaze following a heated family quarrel. Doctors at Angul DHH, upon examination, found that she had sustained around 70 percent burn injuries. Considering the severity, she was referred to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
Meanwhile, Kantabania police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident.
