Nuapada: A young farmer lost his life after being struck by lightning in Bahaladihi village, near Saipala, under Nuapada police limits this afternoon.
The deceased, Bharat Lohar (25), had gone to his agricultural field earlier in the day along with his wife Sushila and their two children for farming work. In the afternoon, a thunderstorm accompanied by rain hit the region. Amid the downpour, Bharat was struck by lightning and collapsed on the field.
Family members rushed him to the Nuapada District Headquarters Hospital in an ambulance, but doctors declared him brought dead on arrival.
Police officials said that due to the timing of the incident, the post-mortem will be conducted on Wednesday, and the body will be handed over to the family thereafter.
The incident has cast a shadow of grief over the Bahaladihi farming community, highlighting the dangers rural workers continue to face during Odisha’s monsoon season.
