Keonjhar: In a shocking incident, a loan defaulter reportedly mowed down a person while the staff of a finance company had a narrow escape in Bansapal area of Odisha’s Keonjhar district on Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as Bubu Mahanta of Baneikala village under Sadar police limits in the district.

According to reports, the accused loan defaulter, identified as Ram Singh of Sukra Sahi under Nayakote police limits, availed a loan from Bajaj Finance to purchase a motor bike. As Singh defaulted in paying his monthly installments, Manoj Mahanta, an employee of the finance company, had gone to the former’s house with his relative Bubu to collect the dues.

When Singh was asked to pay the due EMI, he became angry and started a heated argument with Manoj. On his part, Manoj threatened Singh of consequence if he failed to repay the loan amount on time and left the place.

Ram Singh, however, followed Manoj and Buhu on his four-wheeler and after the duo had gone some distance he rammed his car into Manoj’s bike. Bubu, who was riding pillion, fell from the two-wheeler and was mowed down by the car while Manoj also fell down and was critically injured.

On being informed, Nayakote police rushed to the spot and admitted Manoj to a nearby health center. The doctors at the health center declared Bubu dead on arrival.
