Koraput: Tension prevailed in Koraput district on Monday after locals staged a road blockade on National Highway-26 near Khudiguda following a fatal road accident.
The deceased, identified as Narayan Jani of Kamta village and a former sarpanch, died on the spot after being hit by a private bus named ‘Gupta.’
According to reports, the incident occurred while Jani and his friend were en route to Borigumma on a motorcycle. While the rider survived, Jani sustained critical head injuries and succumbed on the spot.
On being informed, Borigumma police reached the scene, seized the motorcycle, and sent the body for post-mortem to the Borigumma Community Health Centre (CHC).
Agitated over the incident, locals blocked the highway in front of the police station, demanding compensation for the victim’s family. Vehicular movement was disrupted for several hours.
