Fatal Accident In Koraput

Jeypore (Koraput): Tension gripped Umuri area under Jeypore Sadar police station limits on Tuesday after locals blocked the road following a fatal road accident in which one person was killed and another sustained critical injuries.

The deceased has been identified as Haldhar Nayak (52), while Narasingha Behera (55) was seriously injured in the mishap.

According to reports, the two were on a morning walk when an unidentified vehicle hit them. Nayak died on the spot, while Behera suffered grievous injuries. He was first admitted to the Jeypore District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) and later shifted to Visakhapatnam after his condition deteriorated.

Angered over the incident, residents blocked the road by burning tyres, demanding immediate installation of CCTV cameras, construction of road barricades, and swift arrest of the driver responsible for the accident. The blockade led to disruption of traffic movement in the area for several hours.

On being informed, Jeypore SDPO Archita Mittal reached the spot with police personnel and held discussions with the protesters. The agitation was subsequently withdrawn, and normal traffic movement was restored. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident.
