LoP Naveen Patnaik Alleges ‘No Development Expenditure’ By Odisha Govt

Bhubaneswar: Leader of the Opposition (LoP) Naveen Patnaik on Monday launched a sharp critique of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi led Odisha government, alleging that the administration has failed to spend adequately on public welfare and developmental activities.

Speaking to reporters outside the Assembly, the BJD president said that widespread dissatisfaction was growing over the State’s “neglectful approach” toward people-centric expenditure.

“I am sad to say, it is not my remark alone. Many people in our State are saying that no expenditure is being made by the State government for the development of the people,” Patnaik remarked. He added that repeated reminders to the government to prioritise developmental spending had gone unheeded.

“Everyone is suffering; it is not limited to any particular group. It is like they are playing on an empty vessel — and we all know that an empty vessel makes the loudest sound. That seems to satisfy them,” the former Chief Minister said, expressing disappointment over what he described as the government’s focus on rhetoric rather than governance.

Patnaik concluded by expressing regret over “having to report such facts” and urged the government to address public concerns with seriousness.
