Bhubaneswar: Under the influence of the cyclonic circulation over Gangetic West Bengal & adjoining Bangladesh, a low-pressure area has formed over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Jharkhand, informed India Meteorological Department on Friday.
Going by IMD sources, the low-pressure area is currently located over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Jharkhand, with an associated cyclonic circulation extending up to 7.6 km above mean sea level.
According to the IMD, the low-pressure system is likely to move west-northwestwards and become more marked during the next 24 hours. The system is likely to intensify and bring more rainfall and thunderstorms to different parts of the state. The exact trajectory and intensity of the system will be closely monitored by the regional weather office.
Under the impact of low pressure, Odisha is likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall with some regions expected to receive extreme rainfall on August 2 and 3. The system may lead to potential flash flooding and disruptions to daily life. Residents in these areas are advised to take necessary precautions and stay informed about local weather updates and warnings.
