Bhubaneswar: A low pressure area has formed over southwest Bengal and adjoining north Odisha under the influence of an upper air cyclonic circulation over the same region, the India Meteorological Department on Saturday.
According to the IMD, the low pressure area developed at 8:30 am on August 8. The associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 7.6 km above mean sea level and is tilting southwestwards with height. Under its influence, extremely heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places over parts of north and west Odisha.
It is pertinent to mention that the IMD has issued red alert to Mayurbhanj for today. Besides, the IMD has issued an Orange Alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Subarnapur, Boudh, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Gajapati and Ganjam.
