Bhubaneswar: A low-pressure system is likely to develop over the southeast Bay of Bengal around May 10, according to various global weather models including the European model. However, there is still considerable uncertainty regarding its intensity and track.

Several weather models have indicated the possibility of a low-pressure area forming near Sri Lanka and the Tamil Nadu coast. While the exact strength and movement of the system remain unclear, experts say the situation will become clearer after May 11, once the current trough line over central India weakens.

Meanwhile, several parts of the state have continued to receive moderate rains and thunderstorm activity over the past few days due to the prevailing weather conditions.

The IMD has predicted thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds for most districts of Odisha from May 7 to May 13.

For today, the regional weather office has issued yellow warning to Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundergarh, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangapur districts   predicting thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and gusty surface wind (wind speed reaching upto 40-50 kmph).

Besides, thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and gusty surface wind (wind speed reaching upto 30-40 kmph) are very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Jharsuguda, Bargarh,  Sambalpur, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir today.
