Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rain in Odisha from October 23 due to a low-pressure area over the central Bay of Bengal.
The low-pressure area is likely to form around October 22, which further intensify into a depression by October 24, Manorama Mohanty, Director of IMD Bhubaneswar, said.
“A fresh upper air cyclonic circulation is very likely to form over the North Andaman Sea around October 20. Under its influence, a low-pressure area is expected to develop over the central Bay of Bengal around October 22, moving northwestward and intensifying further into a depression by October 24. Under its impact, rainfall activity will increase in Odisha on October 23, 24, and 25.”
Mohanty clarified that it is too early to predict a cyclone presently. We are continuously monitoring the system and will provide regular updates, she said.
Meanwhile, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has issued an alert to all the district administration. The Collectors have been directed to stay alert to face any possible eventuality caused by heavy downpours as predicted by the weather agency.
