Bhubaneswar: Odisha Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari on Saturday reviewed the flood situation in Malkangiri district and took stock of the administration’s preparedness to deal with the situation.
Pujari spoke to the Malkangiri Collector over the prevailing situation and relief measures. Water is currently flowing over four roads in the district, following which vehicular movement on the stretches has been stopped as a precautionary measure.
Arrangements have been made to provide food and drinking water to drivers stranded due to the disruption, while health teams have also been kept on alert, the Collector informed the minister.
Pujari said the Revenue Department had sanctioned funds last year for raising the height of the four roads that frequently face waterlogging during the monsoon. He said steps would be taken to ensure that the problem does not persist in Malkangiri during the coming monsoon seasons.
Meanwhile, Water Resources Department Chief Engineer Dilip Rout said the second low-pressure system had affected Malkangiri district more severely, with heavy to very heavy rainfall reported at several places.
Malkangiri and Chitrakonda recorded 192 mm of rainfall each, while Dabugam received 135 mm. Around Balimela Dam, 219 mm of rainfall was recorded, he said.
