Bhubaneswar: Panic gripped locals after an LPG tanker overturned at Banjari ghat in Kalahandi district on Wednesday night.
According to reports, the accident occurred between Chhatikuda and Sikerkupa when the driver lost control while yielding to a truck. The accident left the driver grievously injured and sparked fears of a gas leak.
The driver was rushed to District Headquarters Hospital in Kalahandi.
The tanker was heading from Visakhapatnam to Balangir when the mishap occurred. The tanker suffered severe damage, with its engine broken into pieces.
The district administration, including the Sub-Collector and senior officials, reached the scene to take stock of the situation.
Reports of a gas leak from the tanker triggered widespread panic, though the Kalahandi district administration hasn’t confirmed this.
