New Delhi: As directed by the Mahanadi Water Disputes Tribunal, an 11-day intensive discussion on the Mahanadi river issue will commence today in Delhi.
The high-level deliberations will continue from June 16 to June 26, 2026. Both Odisha and Chhattisgarh will engage in detailed discussions on key issues, particularly the sharing of Mahanadi river water between the two states.
It is pertinent to mention that both states had requested extensive discussions on the matter. Advocate General of Odisha, Pitambar Acharya, had informed the Tribunal that technical and legal teams from both states would participate in these deliberations. If required, the assistance of the Central Water Commission (CWC) will also be sought during the meetings. The outcome of these discussions will be formally submitted to the Mahanadi Tribunal by both states.
The next hearing of the case is scheduled for June 27.
