Bhubaneswar: The Mahanadi Water Disputes Tribunal will hold a significant hearing today on the long-standing water sharing dispute between Odisha and Chhattisgarh.
During the hearing, both states are expected to submit a report on the progress of discussions held between their legal and technical teams.
According to sources, the two states have reached an agreement on several issues related to Mahanadi water sharing. The Tribunal will review the remaining contentious issues during today’s proceedings. Officials from the Central Water Commission (CWC) are also likely to be present.
Both Odisha and Chhattisgarh have been making continuous efforts to resolve the dispute amicably. The hearing is being viewed as an important step towards finding a permanent and mutually acceptable solution to the Mahanadi water dispute.
It is pertinent to mention that the tribunal was constituted by the Centre to adjudicate the water sharing row between the two neighbouring states, which has been pending for several years.
