Bhubaneswar: The Mahanadi water dispute hearing has been rescheduled to March 14.
According to reports, the Mahanadi Water Dispute Tribunal (MWDT) is set to conduct a hearing after conducting a spot visit between February’s last week and March’s first week. The tribunal will conduct a hearing on March 14 after completing its spot visit.
It is pertinent to mention that the tribunal’s tenure is set to end on April 13. Both Odisha and Chhattisgarh have already requested the Centre to extend the tenure until March 27, 2027, to allow for a thorough examination of the dispute. The tribunal has been non-functional for 9 months due to the vacancy of the chairperson, which has delayed proceedings, said AG Pitanambar Acharya.
The hearing on March 14 will focus on the issues related to the sharing of Mahanadi water, and is expected to be a crucial step towards resolving the long-standing dispute between the two states.
