Bhubaneswar: A major mishap was narrowly averted at Markona Railway Station on Sunday evening when the Jan Shatabdi Express train, traveling from Howrah to Puri, entered the station without clearance signals. Fortunately, the quick thinking of the station master prevented a major accident by signalling the train to stop.
According to reports, the train was supposed to pass through the station on Platform 2 after crossing Soro Railway Station. However, the train driver entered the station at high speed without waiting for the station master’s signal. The station master’s prompt action in stopping the train at Platform 1 at 6:18 PM likely prevented a catastrophic incident.
The original drivers were subsequently replaced by two new ones, and the train departed from Markona Railway Station at 7:25 pm.
Station Master U.N. Panda confirmed the incident, stating that the drivers are currently at the station and a departmental inquiry is underway to determine the cause of the incident. Depending on the findings of the investigation, action will be taken against the drivers.
