Malkangiri: In a major breakthrough against Left Wing Extremism, joint teams of the District Voluntary Force (DVF) and Border Security Force (BSF) on Tuesday morning recovered a large cache of arms, ammunition, IED components, explosives, and other war-like materials from a Maoist dump in the dense forests of Malkangiri district.

Acting on specific intelligence obtained from the interrogation of surrendered Naxals, security forces launched an intensive search operation in the forest areas of Kirmitti and Katuapadar under Mathili Police Station limits. The area lies along the border with Durva Police Station in Bastar district of Chhattisgarh.

The security forces uncovered a Maoist dump around 5:30 am on June 9, 2026 and seized a huge quantity of explosive materials and related items believed to belong to the cadres of the Andhra-Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee (AOBSZC).

Police suspect that these articles were intended to target innocent civilians as well as security forces for carrying out subversive activities in the region.

Among the items recovered were 50 empty detonator caps, 6 crackers, 3.5 kg of gun powder, and 20 kg of splinters. Security forces also seized several IED-making components, including one bundle of wire, four roots auto devices, two roots devices with wire, one bundle of codex wire, and one rechargeable battery. Other materials recovered included 15 HP printer cartridges, 19 disposable syringes, 15 bundles of absorbent gauge cotton, 10 saline bottles with 10 saline pipes, one polythene tent with rope, one waist belt, three haversack bags, one knife, two scissors, one jack, two small screwdrivers, and some Maoist literature books.

Following the successful raid, intensified combing and search operations are currently underway in the bordering forest areas to track down Maoist cadres and uncover any additional dumps.

Malkangiri Superintendent of Police Vinodh Patil today informed the media about the successful recovery of a large quantity of Maoist materials during a joint operation in the district.

Addressing a press conference held at the District Police Headquarters this afternoon, SP Vinod Patil stated that the recovery was made based on inputs from surrendered Naxals. Joint teams of BSF and DVF jawans conducted an intensive search operation in the forest areas of Kirmitti and Katuapadar under Mathili Police Station limits.

According to SP, around 32 types of Maoist-related materials were seized during the operation. The recovered items include arms, explosive devices, IED components, daily use articles, and other Maoist literature and equipment.

Describing the seizure as a major setback to the subversive activities of Maoists in the region, SP Patil further informed that combing and search operations in the bordering forest areas will continue in the coming days to track down Maoist cadres and prevent any untoward incidents.
