Malkangiri: A girl student belonging to Malkangiri’s Bonda tribe, Karma Muduli, was once the topper in 12th standard in the whole district. Following this success, she was promised all assistance from the local administration for pursuing higher studies.
Karma enrolled into Rama Devi Women’s University for her Bachelor’s in Bhubaneswar, and it was in the Capital City where she had to face grim financial crisis.
With no money to manage her expenses for studies and study material, Karma went back home and started working as a daily wager in Malkangiri.
Karma is a native of Padeiguda village in Mudulipada panchayat in Khairaput block. She scored 82.66% marks in +2 Commerce in 2022. Starting from Collector to the Governor, everyone praised Karma, a Bonda tribe girl for the spectacular feat.
However, the young girl with eyes at the sky is facing a mountain of difficulties, amid troubles aplenty.
A charitable trust in Bhubaneswar helped her get admitted into Rama Devi Women’s University. She is being given Rs 1,000 for hostel expenses every month by the trust.
However, for other stationery items, and miscellaneous expenditures she has no money.
“Therefore, I have come back home in summer vacation and earning some money for these expenses, while I complete my graduation in Bhubaneswar,” said Karma, who aspires to be an IAS officer.
“The district administration had given me Rs 10,000 and it was said that my higher education will be free. But this promise was not kept,” she said, sobbing and toiling as a construction worker at a site in Malkangiri.
OMMCOM NEWS tried to fetch the reaction of the district administration in this matter, but it could not be availed till this report was filed.
