Malkangiri: A domestic dispute took a tragic turn in Malkangiri Sadar subdivision when a woman attempted to end her life by setting herself on fire, leaving both herself and her husband critically injured.
The incident took place near Tamil Camp Chhak on Tuesday, when Madhuri Kachim, reportedly overwhelmed during an argument with her husband, Narendra Kachim, poured kerosene on herself and ignited it. As she went up in flames, Narendra rushed forward in a desperate attempt to save her but was himself engulfed by the fire.
Neighbours, alerted by the couple’s screams, immediately intervened and managed to rescue them. They were swiftly taken to the Malkangiri District Headquarters Hospital, where doctors described their condition as critical. Madhuri has sustained more than 70% burn injuries, while Narendra has also suffered extensive burns.
Police have initiated an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident. The community remains in shock as the couple battles for life in the hospital.
