Malkangiri: Monica Samaddar, a resident of MV 75 village under Kalimela block in tribal-dominated Malkangiri district, is in the limelight these days. Monica has been selected as the lead actress in a Telugu movie titled ‘Garaga’.

Monica has a humble background and does not come from a family of film personalities. Even the opportunity to act in ‘Garaga’ did not come easily to Monica. Nevertheless, these days Monica is busy shooting for the film at various locations.

Born in a Bengali family in MV 75 village under Kalimela block of Malkangari district, Monica’s father Goutam Samaddar is a small businessman, while her elder brother works for a Hyderabad-based company. After completing her Plus II from MV7 Jagannath Pally School at Kalimela, she went to reside with her elder brother in Hyderabad. In Hyderabad, Monika learned dance in a dance academy. Seeing her talent, her brother enrolled Monika in a dance academy called “High-Dance Studio” in Hyderabad. Monika learned dance there for two years and was soon offered a small role in a short film which she turned down. Now, Monika Samadhar will be seen as the heroine opposite Telugu star Kalak Srinivasa Rao in the Telugu movie “Garaga” produced under the banner of Srinivasa Creations.

“The film is an action movie and Srinivasa Rao is in the main lead. I am very happy to work with him and others,” said Monica. The other cast of the movie includes Dr Chadalavada Haribabu, Rambabu, Ramaswamy, Chennakesava, Bhavani, Vijaya, Ravan Lankeshwar, Kali Charan, Ravi Babu, Meera, and Rahiman.

The film is scheduled to release soon in Telugu and Hindi and Monica is keeping her fingers crossed. She hopes people will like the film and her performance. Now, Monica wishes to spread her wings to Odisha and act in an Ollywood movie.

Monica says she is proud of her Odisha roots, especially Malkangiri, which has been considered the last district of Odisha for a long.
