Malkangiri: Police on Tuesday arrested another accused in the Axis Bank gold loan scam taking the total number of arrests to four. The arrested has been identified as Soumya Ranjan Das, who has been evading arrest since the scam was unearthed.
It is worth mentioning here that three employees of Axis Bank conspired with two other accused in this scam wherein three bank employees and two others took loan from Axis Bank and bought gold from the market.
While availing the loans, the accused presented fake documents in the names of various people and borrowers implicating that the loans were taken by them. The accused even used fake signatures. They pledged 1648.70 grams of gold in the names of about seven people and showed their names in the loan documents.
However, al the gold was in the name of Soumya Ranjan Das. Later, they prepared fake documents showing that there was a huge loss on the gold loan and robbed the bank of about Rs 83.80 lakh.
The Malakangiri police were continuing their investigation in this regard to arrest the two absconding accused. As of now Biswa Ranjan is still said to be absconding.
