Bhubaneswar: The Malkangiri district administration has withdrawn BNS Section 163 in Rakhalguda and MV-26 villages, but extended the internet shutdown for another 36 hours, effective until Monday, 12 noon. This decision follows recent violence in the area, which has resulted in estimated damages of Rs 3.8 crore.
District Collector Somesh Kumar Upadhyay stated that discussions with tribal leaders are underway to restore peace in the district. The land dispute is expected to be resolved soon. Authorities have arrested six persons involved in the MV-26 violence, and one person has been arrested and jailed in connection with a murder case.
The administration has provided relief to affected families, including Rs 30,000 to the family of the deceased, with an additional Rs 4 lakh requested from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. Electricity and water supply have been restored, and students are receiving dry food, while pregnant women are being provided with food from Anganwadi centres.
