Balasore: Consumers in Odisha may once again experience a potato crisis. While the price of this vegetable is still high across the state, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee recently imposed a ban on the sale of potato to Odisha.
The West Bengal Chief Minister has directed her officials to ensure that potato supplies to Odisha are stopped with immediate effect. She fears potato shortage in West Bengal due to supplies to other states. Therefore, she has ordered to stop the supply of potatoes to Odisha new potato harvest arrives in January and February.
Following the directive of the West Bengal Chief Minister, arrival of potato vehicles from West Bengal has o Odisha has stopped as West Bengal police are stopping vehicles carrying this vegetable at the border gates.
On Wednesday, hundreds of potato trucks were stopped near Belda and Datan as they did not have the requisite permission to transport potato to Odisha. The West Bengal administration has set up barricade on National Highway No 60 near Belda.
