Bhubaneswar: A day after resigning from the Rajya Sabha membership and quitting the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), Mamata Mohanta today joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at its headquarters in New Delhi.
She embraced the saffron party in the presence of Odisha in-charge of BJP Vijaypal Singh Tomar, party general secretary Arun Singh and several leaders from Odisha including MPs Pradeep Panigrahi, Sangita Singh Deo, Anita Subhadarshini, Anant Nayak and Malvika Keshari Deo and State Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan.
Vijay Pal welcomed Mohanta to the BJP, emphasizing that her strong ties to her tribal region will bolster the party’s presence there. Mohanta’s influence will support the party’s policies and significantly contribute to the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’ and ‘Viksit Odisha,’ helping to fulfill the promises outlined in the manifesto, he said.
After joining the party formally, she extended gratitude to the BJP top brasses including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, party president JP Nadda, Home Minister Amit Shah, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
“I resigned from the BJD yesterday as the party doesn’t require my service any more. My prime objective is to serve people, especially the Kudumi community. I will get more opportunities to serve my community in BJP. So, I decided to join the national party,” she told media after embracing the saffron front.
Mohanta pledged her support to Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji in his vision of building ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047.
She also expressed gratitude to BJD and its president Naveen Patnaik for giving her an opportunity to serve people.
On Wednesday, Mohanta resigned from Rajya Sabha much before the end of her tenure. She also resigned from the primary membership of the BJD by sending her resignation to party chief Naveen Patnaik.
