Bhubaneswar: A man has been arrested for allegedly duping a buyer of Rs 92 lakh by selling government-acquired land in Bhubaneswar.
The accused has been identified as Yash Jalan of Laxmi Sagar Police station area in the city. According to police, he approached the complainant with an offer to sell plots in Meherpalli and Mendhasala areas of Bhubaneswar, claiming he was the rightful owner.
Investigations revealed that the land in Meherpalli had already been acquired by the government, and Jalan had himself received compensation for it. Despite this, he allegedly presented the property as private and collected Rs 92 lakh from the complainant in multiple transactions.
The fraud came to light when the buyer tried to verify the land records and found discrepancies. A complaint was then filed at Laxmi Sagar police station.
Acting on the complaint, police registered a case, conducted an inquiry, and arrested Jalan on Friday. He was later produced before a local court.
