Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police on Friday arrested a man for allegedly duping several people by impersonating an Additional Superintendent of Police (SP) in the city.
The accused has been identified as Rajnikanta Mohanty.
According to police, Mohanty allegedly damaged the vehicle of a resident of the Unit-III area and threatened him while claiming to be a senior police officer. Following the incident, the victim lodged a complaint at Kharvel Nagar Police Station.
Acting on the complaint, police launched an investigation and arrested Mohanty. During the course of the probe, officials reportedly found that he had allegedly cheated and intimidated several people in Bhubaneswar by posing as an Additional SP.
Police said Mohanty used a fake identity card to establish his false credentials and mislead the victims.
Further investigation into the matter is underway.
