Jajpur: Police on Saturday arrested a man from Purbakote village under Korai police station limits in Jajpur district and seized two pistols, two magazines, five live rounds of ammunition and one SAV from his possession.
The accused has been identified as Michael Santosh.
According to police, acting on a tip-off that Santosh was roaming in the area on a motorcycle while carrying a pistol, a police team conducted a raid at the place where he was reportedly hiding.
During the raid, Santosh allegedly attempted to evade the police and threatened the personnel by brandishing a pistol. However, the police team managed to overpower and apprehend him.
Additional SP Sitikantha Kanungo said the raid was conducted based on specific information about the accused carrying an illegal firearm.
“Acting on a tip-off that Michael was roaming in the area carrying a pistol on his bike, our team conducted a raid. When we reached the spot, he tried to escape and allegedly threatened the police by brandishing a pistol. However, our team managed to apprehend him,” Kanungo said.
Police subsequently recovered two pistols, two magazines, five live rounds of ammunition and one SAV from his possession.
The accused was forwarded to court on Saturday, police said.
Further investigation is underway.
