Balangir: The Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADJ) Court in Patnagarh on Tuesday sentenced a man to life imprisonment in connection with a six-year-old murder case from Karlamal village in Balangir district.
The convict, identified as Madan Sandh, was also fined ₹10,000, with the court ordering an additional six months of rigorous imprisonment if the fine is not paid.
According to case records, in August 2019, Madan attacked Lakshman Banchhor with an axe near a village pond over a trivial dispute. Lakshman, who sustained grievous injuries, was rushed to Patnagarh Sub Divisional Hospital and later referred to Balangir District Headquarters Hospital and VIMSAR, Burla, where doctors declared him dead.
Following the incident, police registered a case at Patnagarh police station and arrested Madan. After years of trial and examination of evidence and witnesses, the court on Tuesday convicted him of murder and pronounced the sentence.
